What have become of Virginia Slims?

What have become of Virginia Slims? It seems girls just do not smoke them anymore. Why is this? Virginia Slims were the epitomy of elegance a few decades ago.

They personified elegance, beauty, style and confidence. A woman that smoked Virginia Slims had class and was to be respected. She knew the power and elegance of smoking. She knew that she looked good and the long, all white cigarette just increased her appeal and mystery.

Unfortunately, the latest couple of generations of smoking woman seem to have lost this fact. Why so? The Virginia Slims advertising campaign was groundbreakingly original and one of true genius. "You've come a long way baby" empowered women.

Why can't something along these lines be ressurected? Young women are being pulled in droves to e-cigs and vaping. It is all a function of advertising. Here's to hoping Virginia Slims get the hint and someday come up with another revolutionary ad campaign so we can enjoy beauties like these in the future!

  1. Virginia Slims lost their elegant appeal in the late 2000s when every fat, greasy slob of a woman started smoking them and making smoking fetish videos because it gave their ugly asses an excuse to consider themselves "models" and get paid for doing nothing by men so desperate for 120s content that they accept any woman. Look no further than Southern Charms or MsInhale as an example.

  2. I myself think the Virgina Slims are not smoked as much by anyone is the cost of them, In MN they are almost 1.50 more a pack and when all the groups of smokers go for the cheap brand that's what they all get used to and buy.

  3. Cost has a lot to do with it. As well I think they have a stigma of been a granny cig and therefore not cool.

Wish they were to become available in Canada. I could see several smokers I know switching to them

  4. If Virginia Slims 120s were available here in Canada, I would definitely be buying them all the time.

  6. Amazingly enough, I started smoking in 1963, I was VERY intrigued by the Virginia Slims ads on TV in the late 60's, then in the magazines until several years ago, but I didn't actually switch to Virginia Slims (I smoke the Gold 120's) until 2000. Which I did because I wanted the extra length, not because they were "girly"; they're almost the same damn cigarette that Benson & Hedges Premiums are, which I switched from.

A possible reason for the demise of VS; most women who smoke have significant others that also smoke, and many of them like to smoke the same thing that he does. This was my situation until I was 40; I wanted to switch to 100's for quite awhile, but chose to stick with the Marlboro reds that he smoked. Until he switched to filterless, which was my cue to switch to Marb 100's, then later B&H 100's and VS 120's.

    1. I'm looking to find VS 120s online Deanna. I have seen others online smoke them, and as a smoker, they look to be quite sexy. Do you know where I could find them?

  8. I have to agree a bit with price. Being a teen in the 70"s my mom smoked WINSTON reds and my dad smoked PALL MALL none filter so I started with the WINSTON'S because of easy access. In my sophomore year dating an older boy he said i should smoke 100's because they where sexier and a better bargain. I was able to by my own smokes by then and eagerly switched. Note in that time 15 was legal to buy (not enforced) with no age limit on smoking, there was even a smoking area at the high school for students.
By my senior year Saturday night fever had become a hit and dance clubs popped up every where and looking your best was now the norm. I soon started trying a variety of 120's MAX, MORE, SARATOGA etc. until settling on VS 120's. I smoked them for many years and switching to MARLBORO light 100's for availability and cost. I still pick up VS 120's when ever I go out on the town or to a social event.

  10. My ideal cigarette would be a Marlboro 130 a huge suckable cork filter make the cigarette just a tad bigger in diameter for a better drag on that extra long filter so it would deliver lots of thick rich cigarette smoke. For those of us that love a fresh lit cigarette hanging out of our mouth, this woul be the ultimate, long lean and loaded with tar and nicotine, this cigarette would have 27mg of tar and 2mg of nicotine. Us 2 pack a day smokers could get 80mg of nicotine per day to stay in our nicotine stupor, and stand out like a sore thumb with this huge cigarette in our mouth, hand or high on the steering wheel of our car. When you just cant get enough smoke Marlboro 130s would be all you'd ever need, wrap those lips around that long warm soft cork filter latch on apply the flame and suck youself into nicotine oblivion all day and all night every day and every night cause with a cigarette everything is just right. Love Chrisrie.
